身近な生き物の感情からインスピレーションを瞬間に感じるという、メキラマヤの不思議な世界観。 Interview @mari J brooklyn Translation by Ushiro  1、出身はどこですか？
Where are you from ? 日本の長崎で生まれましたが、1歳の時から東京に移住して、主に福生育ちです。
I was born in Nagasaki, Japan but was moved to Tokyo when I was one year old, so I mainly grew up in Fussa in Tokyo.   2、いつから活動を?
When you start ARTWORK  ? ３０歳です。でもイラストのお仕事は25歳くらいから4年程してました。
30 years old. But I had done illustration for four years since I was 25 years old.   3、きっかけは？エピソードなど。
How did you start it ? Do you have any back story  ? 幼い頃から母が集めていた洋書絵本に囲まれてました。
その絵が大好きで、母が私が絵を描くと喜んだのでその頃から
大きくなったら絵描きになろうと思ってました。
でも母は私が成長するにつれ絵を描くことを批判するようになりました。
高校のアルバイトのお給料も半分は家に入れてましたし、母の生活を金銭的にも支えたりしていて...
母のことが大好きでしたのでたくさん働くことも、精神的に支えることも必要でした。
もう自分の本当の純粋な夢は封印していたんです。
でも、母が私が3０の時に亡くなって、それで、肩の荷がおりたとゆうか、身が軽くなった気がして。そうしたら、自分の胸にしまいこんでた夢が
解き放たれて、わーっと溢れて、よし、絵描きになるぞ！！と。ざっとゆってもこんな感じです。 When I was young, I was surrounded by foreign books my mother collects. I love illustrations in the books. Because my mother was happy when I drew so I wanted to be an illustrator when I grow up. However, as I grew up she complained that I continued my painting. I put half of my salary of my part-time when I was a high school student and supported my mom financially because I love her… I had to work hard and support her mentally too. Therefore, I sealed off my pure dream.
Yet, my mom died when I was 30 years old, and I felt like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and like I was nimble. Then, my dram locked in my deep inside was unleashed and unbounded, and then I decided to be a painter! My story is like this.   4、インスピレーションは何ですか？
What is your inspection? 身近な生き物である、息子たちやw、その辺に咲いてる花 〜 netflixのネイチャー系の番組まで範囲は広いのですが
その生き物から物語や感情を感じた瞬間にインスピレーションが生まれます。
Neighbor living things, my sons, and flowers bloomed around here as well as nature programs on Netflix. I get inspired from such a wide range but my inspiration usually is generated when I feel stories or feelings from these living things.   5、今までにやった個展やコラボは？
How ever done exhibition or any collaboration? 花など、顔のない生き物の感情を表現するのに、顔を描いたりするのですが、
''顔のある食べ物たち''とゆう題材で渋谷のレストランで個展をしたのが初めての個展です。 コラボは、結婚前に主人とフジテレビでのイベントでライブペイントコラボをしました。>数年間、フジテレビの解放してる場所に展示していただいてました。嬉しかったです。 あとは、ダンサーのTidaとコラボする活動をしましたが、まだ手探り思考中の段階で
すぐに私の結婚と出産で、たった２回の活動で終わってしまって...いつかまたコラボするのが夢です。 I draw faces to living creatures to express their feelings, and it was my first solo exhibition titled “faceless foods” at a restaurant at Shibuya. Regarding collaboration, before our marriage, I collaborated with my husband at an event at Fuji Television. For years, these arts were showed at the open space of Fuji Television and it was a pleasure. In addition, I did a collaboration activity with a dancer, Tida, but we were fumbling and I had my marriage and delivery, we ended up only two activities. It’s my dream to do a collaboration again someday.   
6、これから行うプロジェクトはありますか？
Do you have any project coming up soon ? 目先は、何と言ってもArtexpo NEW YORK 2019です！
次に、10月にアラブで開催される※8th Discover the one Japanese Art 2019 in AbuDhabi
とゆうグループ展にお誘いいただいてます。
そして！その後はまだ詳細は未定ですが、今オファーをいただいてる、NYでの個展です！ 今年の４月からは次男の幼稚園が始まり、
約8年間の１日中子育ての生活から
日中に数時間まとまった制作時間を持てるようになります。これがすごく嬉しくて...
このタイミングで立て続けに展示のオファーをいただけたことは運命でしかないなと
そう思っています。全てが楽しみです！ ※【8th Discover the one Japanese Art 2019 in AbuDhabi】開催概要◆

For starters, Artexpo New York 2019!
Next, 8th Discover the one Japanese Art 2019 in AbuDhabi in October. I was invited to join the group exhibition.
In addition, details are not confirmed but I have received an offer to have a solo exhibition in NY. In this April, my second son will go to a kindergarten, and I have done child-caring in a full day for eight years but I’ll be able to have a few hours a day for creation. I’m really happy about it…
Due to the fact that I have received some offers in a row, I have a profound sense of destiny. 
I’m looking forward everything!

How did you make followers grow ?  インスタグラム登録は数年前ですが

どうでしたか？
Have  you ever in japan 🇯🇵 ?
How was it ?  京都は、日本に住んでいても行ったらテンション上がりました。
あとは新宿に住んでた頃に
徒歩30分くらいでよく神楽坂に遊びに行ってました。
日本の伝統が色濃く残る場所ですし、小さな京都のようなイメージでした。
神楽坂は歴史のあるお寺が複数あり、
中でも野菜の神様を祀っているお寺がお気に入りでした。
Even though I live in Japan, I’m exited about going to Kyoto.
And, when I lived in Shinjuku, I went often to Kagurazaka by 30-minute walk.
It’s one of the places that has Japanese tradition and has an image of small Kyoto for me.
There are some historical temples in Kagurazaka, and the temple that enshrines vegetable is my favorite.   13, 日本について知ってることは？
What do you know about japan ? 
九州は東京よりも、2時間以上は日の出日の入りの時間が遅いです。
九州の長崎のおくんち祭りは派手で艶やかで、力強く、芸術的です。   14, 日本のどこが好きですか？
What do you like about japan ? 火山が多く、血の気が多い元気な大地が多いところ。
特に今住んでいる九州はすごいです、
美味しい野菜が、食材がたくさんある！
There are many volcanic mountains and hot-blooded, energetic lands.
Particularly I love Kyushu, where I live now. There are delicious vegetable and foodstuff.   
15, 日本で何がしたいですか？
What do you want to do in japan ? 温泉がたくさんあるので、温泉巡りしたいです。
あとは、美味しいものが多いのでとにかくたくさん食べたいですね。
あとは、息子たちに日本の春夏秋冬の美を、遊びを、愉しんでもらいたいです。
There are a lot of hot springs and I want to go around them.
Also, there are a lot of delicious food in Japan, and I want to eat a lot anyway.
Lastly, I’d like my sons to enjoy the beauty and events of Japanese full seasons (spring, summer, fall and winter).     NYについて

Fountain Art Fair New York at the 69th Regiment Armory
に参加する主人に付いて行きました。2012年で、長男がまだ生後１０ヶ月でずっと抱っこしてました。
NYのタイムズスクエアの輝く夜の光が、驚き目を見開いた息子の目にキラキラと写りこんでいたのを思い出します。 I went to New York once. I visited with my husband, who attended Fountain Art Fair New York at the 69th Regiment Armory. It was 2012 and I needed to hold my first son, who was 10 months old at that time. I remind that shining night light at Times Square was brilliantly projected in the surprised eyes of my son.   17.  NYについて知ってることは？
What do you know about NY ? マリリンさんとゆうハイパーおしゃれな日本人が暮らしているとゆうこと。
地下鉄で迷子になった私を助けてくれる親切な人たちがいるとゆうこと。
もっと知りたいです。 あと、空港のタクシー乗り場で、並んでいた女の人がタバコを吸っていて
ここは禁煙よと注意した老夫婦に向かって煙をこれ見よがしに顔を近づけて
フ〜〜〜ってかけていたのを見て、日本の東京でそのような光景は見たことがなく
映画の中のワンシーンでしか見たことがなかったので実際に見てかなり衝撃を受けました。
圧倒的な都会パワーを持つNYに、
今度私のアートを持って行くのが楽しみです。 I know that a hyper fashionable Japanese, Mari J, lives there and that there are kind people who help me when I get lost at subway.
I want to know more. In addition, at a cabstand at the airport, a woman was smoking a cigarette. An old couple alerted her “here is a no-smoking area”, but she ostentatiously closed her face to them and puffed smoke to them. I never seen such a scene in Tokyo, Japan and was hugely impressed because I only saw in the one scene of movie. 
I’m excited to bring my arts to NY, which has massive city power.   
18. NYのどこが好きですか？
What do you like about NY? カッコ良い女性がたくさんいるところ。
私も頑張るぞっ！って思います。
ギャラリーもたくさんあって、素晴らしいところだと思います。
There are many cool women.
I make up my mind to work harder.
And there are a lot of art galleries and I think it’s great.   
19. NYで何がしたいですか？
What do you want to do in NY ? ギャラリー巡りをしたいです。
あとは、やっぱりブロードウェイを観たいです。
クラブでちょっとだけ夜遊びもしてみたい...
I want to go around art galleries.
And I’d like to see Broadway shows.
And I’d like to enjoy a night life  at a club.
